What You Will Learn
The issue of resistant behavior in children and adolescents is not a new issue for America’s educators. However, increasingly classroom teachers, counselors and administrators report concerns within two areas. First, many educators believe there is an increase in defiant and oppositional behavior among students. Second, they also believe - based on referrals for disciplinary action and special services - that extremely resistant behavior is being observed at earlier ages.
This webinar will focus on three distinct areas related to student resistance:
- Understanding Resistant Behavior
- Understanding the Behavioral Change Process
- Creating Behavioral Change in Students
In addition, the following topics will be explored and effective strategies for prevention and intervention will be outlined. These include:
- Five Categories of Resistant Behavior
- Eleven Rules of the Resistant Student
- Four Goals of Resistant Behavior
- Steps for Creating an Informed Intervention
- Seven Precursors for Change
- Dealing with Target Behaviors Such As: Acting Out, Arguing, Attention Seeking, Clowning, Insubordination, Obscene Language, Temper Tantrum
